Short answer

The Breguet Classique 7787 is a 39 mm gold dress watch. It shows hours, minutes, small seconds, a moon phase and a power reserve. Breguet builds the case in 18k rose gold or 18k white gold. The engine is the self-winding calibre 591 DRL with a 38-hour power reserve. A fake 7787 copies the case shape and the dial layout. It does not carry a Breguet movement, solid gold, or a hand-cut dial. Check the movement first, the case metal second, the dial third.

What a replica 7787 changes

Most replicas hold the 39 mm case size and the dial layout. Three parts change.

  1. Movement. Replicas use Chinese automatic calibers, often from Seagull or Hangzhou. The rotor carries stamped decoration. Geneva stripes on the genuine watch are cut, not printed.
  2. Moon phase. On the real watch the moon disc advances once every 29.5 days. On many replicas the moon aperture is a 24-hour day and night disc.
  3. Case metal. The genuine case is solid 18k gold and carries a hallmark plus a 750 stamp. Replicas use gold-plated steel or brass.

Power reserve hands on replicas often move with the mainspring. Some are fixed. Some travel a short arc and stop.

How to check a 7787

  1. Turn the watch over. The 7787 has a sapphire caseback. You should see the calibre 591 DRL, an engraved rotor, perlage, Geneva stripes and blued screws.
  2. Find the hallmark. Solid 18k cases carry a hallmark and a 750 stamp on the caseback or the lugs. Plated cases carry no hallmark, or a mark that does not match the metal.
  3. Time the moon. Note the moon position. A true moon phase returns to the same point after 29.5 days. A day and night disc returns after 24 hours.
  4. Look at the guilloché. Hand-turned patterns shift and catch light as the wrist moves. Printed patterns stay flat under a lamp.
  5. Match the numbers. Compare the case reference and serial with the number engraved on the movement.

Price

Genuine 7787 watches sell in the $30,000 to $40,000 range in the United States. Used prices move with gold spot and condition. Replica prices run from about $80 to $500. A seller who asks $2,000 for a 7787 is not selling gold at a discount.

Legal status in the United States

Trafficking in counterfeit goods is a federal crime under 18 U.S.C. 2320. U.S. Customs and Border Protection can seize counterfeit watches at import under 19 U.S.C. 1526. Selling a counterfeit watch also creates civil liability under the Lanham Act. Buying one for personal use is a different charge, but the package can still be seized and destroyed.

What is unknown

Replica factories change movements between batches. Case weight and finishing vary by batch and by seller. No public list tracks these changes. Confirm the actual watch in hand before you compare it with any spec sheet.
