Inspection steps

  2. Confirm the beat rate. Put the watch on a timegrapher and read the vph figure plus the amplitude at full wind.
  3. Check the engraving with a 10x loupe. Compare letter height, spacing and the sharpness of the rotor edge against a reference photo of the real caliber.
  4. Wind the watch fully and set it down. Note the time, then check it again at 24 and 48 hours to see how the rate drifts as the mainspring unwinds.
  5. Place the watch next to a magnet for a few minutes, then re-check the rate. A genuine 8900 shows almost no change.
  6. Test the crown and the date change. Turning the crown forward and backward should feel smooth, with no grinding or slack.
  7. Get the return terms in writing before payment, including the return window and who pays return shipping.
