Answer first

The Omega Seamaster Tokyo 2020 replica copies a watch Omega built for the Tokyo Olympic Games and capped at 2,020 pieces. Two base watches carry the name: the Seamaster Diver 300M and the Aqua Terra. Copies of the Diver 300M sell for $250 to $520. The case measures 42mm across and about 13.5mm thick. The movement is an automatic clone. No copy matches the gen. Gaps show at the caseback engraving, the bezel scale, and the dial print.

Which Tokyo 2020 watches exist

  • Seamaster Diver 300M Tokyo 2020. Steel case. 42mm. Blue and white color scheme. Limited to 2,020 pieces.
  • Seamaster Aqua Terra Tokyo 2020. Steel case. 41mm. White ceramic dial with blue hands and markers. Limited to 2,020 pieces.

Omega held the official timekeeper contract for the Tokyo Games. The event ran in 2021 after a one-year delay. I could not confirm every dial variant for every reference. Check the reference number in Omega's catalog before you pay.

Case and bezel

The gen Diver 300M uses a ceramic bezel insert with a white enamel diving scale. Enamel does not glow. Many replicas fill the scale with lume, or with paint that fades to gray. The crown sits at 3 o'clock. A helium escape valve sits at 10 o'clock. On most copies the valve is decorative and does not turn.

Dial

The gen dial is ceramic with laser-cut waves. Copies use stamped metal or printed resin. Under a 10x loupe the replica waves look shallow and the edges round off. Date window sits at 6 o'clock. Font weight differs from gen on most batches.

Caseback

The gen back has a wave edge and a stamped number out of 2,020. Copies engrave the Tokyo 2020 mark and the rings. Line weight runs thin. Some batches ship with no serial number at all.

Movement

The gen runs Omega calibre 8800, a Master Chronometer with a 55-hour reserve and a 15,000-gauss rating. Replicas use a clone of the ETA 2824-2, a Hangzhou 7-series, or a Miyota 9015. Reserve runs 38 to 42 hours. Rotor engraving copies the Omega mark. Accuracy lands between -10 and +20 seconds a day. A service costs $80 to $150.

Water resistance

The gen is rated to 300m. A replica case gasket holds 30m to 50m after a pressure test. Do not swim with it. Do not shower with it.

Checks before you pay

  1. Ask for photos of the caseback, the crown threads, and the clasp.
  2. Ask for a timegrapher reading: rate, amplitude, beat error.
  3. Confirm the factory name and the batch number. VSF, OMF, and ORF build these cases. Batches change.
  4. Confirm strap type: rubber, steel bracelet, or both.
  5. Confirm return terms and shipping method.
